Floodball, Saving Your Life
Participants: Chawk Chamoun, Jena Nabut, Juan Pablo Fernandez, Michael Grießler, Xiao Zhang
Executive Summary
Man made climate change, brought about by the burning of fossil fuels, is drastically changing the environment, warming global temperatures, raising the seas, and increasing the amount of moisture in the atmosphere. These changes have created an increase in catastrophic weather events worldwide. Worldwide urban areas are being affected by floods, causing death and property damages. Partners with the Red Cross organization have proposed a way to reduce deaths and damages by raising awareness on the subject among the people by combining climate change awareness with the world’s most popular sport: “Floodball”. “Floodball” is a football event where regular citizens gather in a major football stadium and have the chance to play with professional players after which both citizens and professional players who have experienced floods would share their own stories. In this event, an information booth will have flyers about the several steps to follow in the case of catastrophic flooding, as well as an opportunity to sign up to an SMS network that will alert everyone before the disaster. For this major event to happen, a social media campaign with the hashtag #Floodball will be made to reach as many people as possible. In addition, a separate children mud football game will be organized to display the hydrophobic technology, which demonstrate a super water repellant property.
